Defining the New Standard of Excellence at Work


Hi All! Hope you all had wonderful weekend!! This week I read the international bestseller titled “The Professional“ by Subroto Bagchi. The subheading “Define the New Standard of Excellence at Work“ and that's what caught my eye. The book is intense in terms of the contents. I initially doubted if I could finish the book in a week. Nevertheless, I completed the book only because of the short and crisp chapters with examples. Enough of all unwanted information, we can dive into what content does the book offers:

The book is divided into seven parts, each having more or less than 7 chapters.

Part 1 - Integrity:

This part of the book tells us the importance of integrity in professional environment. Thus part consists of several stories portraying the importance being a professional not just in professional life but in personal life too. At the end of the day, professionalism is a personal choice people make, and for some, integrity simply becomes a way of life.

Part 2 - Self-awareness:

In this part, some of the critical qualities of self-aware people. The lessons we can learn here is that we need to be self-aware and not suffer from false competition. It also teaches us that a professional should seek work more than money. The importance of courtesy and generosity is highlighted here.

Part 3 - Professional Qualities:

This section lists the list of all the professional qualities that make a person professional. Some of the qualities illustrated in this section are habit of to-do list, saying ‘no‘, quit whining, and creating reuse.

Part 4 - Managing Volume:

This section of the books revolves around the quality of a professional that has a vision and deliver value. Vision is never fulfilled without commitment, preparation, asking pertinent questions, and intent listening.

Part 5 - Managing Complexity:

In any organisation, this section is the most crucial topic. The section includes all the topics from logical reasoning or emotional intelligence. Further, it explains the three levels of knowledge such as adaptive layer, experiential layer, and existential layer, and dealing with personal pain.

Part 6 - New World Imperatives:

This section explains the qualities that needs to be cultivated inorder to attain executive level leadership. In today's fast-paced world, the importance of being alert to seek opportunities for ourselves and business is explored in this section. Such a professional should be competitive enough to work cross-cultural teams and have the ability to govern the team.

Part 7 - The Professional's Professional:

This final section explains the philosophy of being professional, unprofessional and it's platform and purpose.

Overall, this book is a complete handbook of being excellence at work and professional. The book is a definite answer for people looking to learn more about being professional and achieve excellence.
