Procrastination Is The Only Enemy

A few months back, I wrote an article listing 30 helpful life lessons in which I stated Procrastination is the only enemy. As a part of the #bookaweekchallenge, last week I read a book called "EAT THAT FROG by Brian Tracy" in which the author shares 21 ways to stop procrastination and step ahead in your life and career. The creativity of this book is at the epitome level because the author engages the reader with each step with anecdotes of how to eat a frog.

Below are the 21 steps that the book covers:

  1. Always start with defining the purpose of the important tasks. The author signifies that clarity is the most essential concept to be used. The book lists out the seven steps formula for setting and achieving goals.

  2. The next step is to set up the plan every day in advance. Make lists for different purposes and start with listing out each task in the order of importance.

  3. Always remmember that applying the 80/20 rule. 20% of activities will account for 80 % of your results.

  4. Making better decisions about time and think about the consequences of using the time.

  5. Practice the habits of completing the important tasks first and that really counts.

  6. Organize the list of tasks base on value, complexity, and time of completion.

  7. Identify the key results that when accomplished will boost your career.

  8. There is a great saying by Theodore Roosevelt "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are". Similarly to the saying, identity three things you do in your work that account for 90 % of your contribution.

  9. Prepare all necessary information, tools, work materials, and knowledge that need to start working on the important tasks.

  10. Always start with the most difficult task to complete. Once it is done, it will cause a huge relief.

  11. Keep up-skilling your knowledge that requires completing your tasks.

  12. Try to find the issues that may arise while performing the tasks. This will always lead to the proper execution of the job.

  13. Always try to put pressure on yourself. This can make you finish or at least start the task that you were holding off on for a long time.

  14. Keep motivating yourself so that you can keep finishing the job and arrive at results.

  15. Stop your technology obsession. Doing that will definitely give you more time to work on the tasks.

  16. This is one of the key points for me personally. It is to always treat your technology as your servant and not as a master. Taking control of how you handle technology will serve us more focus and time.

  17. Concentrating on one task at a time is essential. Stop the interruptions and distractions that interfere while performing the job.

  18. Subdivide the tasks into smaller tasks so that you don't have to feel overwhelmed and can complete the sub-tasks.

  19. Organize time slots with the extended periods just so that we can be cautious of completing the task.

  20. The 20th point the author suggests is to develop a sense of urgency. The habit of completing the task quickly will be a relief and at the same time, you will be known for completing tasks with a quick turnaround time.

  21. Final point is to work on the tasks with clear priorities and with stooping until the task is complete.

The above 21 ways to stop procrastination are a definite legit to those who keep putting off their work/tasks. I would definitely recommend this book to others as it is a gem. I hope you enjoyed the post! If you like the post, please like, share, and subscribe!!
